Below is a site report from a low slope roofing crew of ours in Edmonton. Service order per engineer roof inspection was roof drainage repairs. This was to include work to external scuppers, internal drains, flashing and down-spouts on a torch-on SBS modified bitumen flat roof system. February 21, 2015: Roof Inspection and Scope of Work Determined. Maintenance and Repairs (per Engineer report). Supply and Install: 32 penetrations (vents) will need roof nails removed and proper screws installed, 1 - 12 inch chimney vent with flashing installed 2 ft X 2 ft, replace old drains with new 4 inch retro fit drains with u flow and proper screens they also two major ponding spot and I recommend that we put in 2 - 6 inch scuppers with down pipe to relieve those areas of water the last thing is to remove all debris from the existing scuppers and roof its self.

Materials needed: Sheet metal flashing for chimney and vent. 2- 4 inch drains with basket. 2- 4 inch u flows. 2 - 6 inch scuppers. 80 ft of 3 inch down pipe white. 5 elbows. 1 bag of 1.5 inch wood screws with rubber grommets 100 pieces. 1 can of spray primer. 1 roll of cap frost grey. 1 roll of 180 flam-flam. 1- 3 gal can of Sopramastic. February 27, 2015: Crew Attends to Location. Repairs Completed.  Site Location: 10716 - 102 Street Edmonton, Alberta. This site's scope of work is specific to the engineers report to repair a number of issues relating to flat roof drainage. We started with the drains which took extra time to remove the old drains since they used gum to make their seal on the drop drain (the previous roofers). Which didn't work. Then we started on the repair of the external drainage scuppers and completed them. We then unloaded most of the tools and started with replacing the nails in the plumbing vent curbs with screws with rubber grommets. We then started to install the down spouts.

Edmonton EPDM Roof Recovery, July 2012

Below you will find the report for an EPDM re-roofing effort GRS undertook for one of our Edmonton clients. Their existing tar and gravel roof is in need of some work, so we quoted cost for repair, replacement, and recovering services before the client elected to recover the existing roof with EPDM. Our office thought it would be best to establish the scope of the work and inform the customer of what we intended to do at their location. Below is a summary of the correspondence from our team that outlines the project details. Project Scope, July 3, 2012: We will first order the engineered insulation package for the project, and the arrival of this will (in large) determine the effective start date. The best estimate for now is that we can begin late next week (July 11-13), but we promised to keep the client in-the-know if any updates were to come about. The client's on-site contact will be instructed to put a "walk in" bin on street (to allow for us to wheel in wheelbarrows of gravel from the street level); if there are any issues with that he'll let you or I know. We promised to put down sheathing that would safely allow wheelbarrows to be repeatedly rolled across the grass without damaging the property. Another member of the project team will contact the client with respect to colour swatch and choice for metal. They will be advised to keeping the face as low profile as possible, considering the raised elevation view due to sloped insulation raising the parapet. The roofers will be advised that we will be doing an EPDM recovery (removal of gravel first leaving the existing assembly), taking core samples to ensure insulation is dry, and that we are building up parapets to allow for sloped insulation. Finally, the job will require the removal of the flashing around the chimney and possibly require a re-flash (to be evaluated at the appropriate time). Materials:

  • (2) Plastic cement.
  • (6) 6" rolls scrim.
  • (4) 4' rolls scrim.
  • Mastic.
  • Bag of calcium.
  • 5 Gallons of Varsol/Mineral spirits.
  • (2) Rolls duct tape.
Field Report, August 13 2012: The crew met with the two new members, and began working on gravel removal from the roof. First, gravel was shovelled into easily-managed lines on the roof, and was then loaded into the smaller buckets. The buckets were brought to the edge of the roof, lowered to ground level, and put into the wheelbarrow. One member would ferry the gravel into the disposal bin and return for the next load. Once the gravel was removed, existing nail holes in the flashing were filled with caulking to make a watertight seal while the rest of the crew cleaned up the site for the day. The first store did not have everything necessary, so a detour was made to ensure that the remaining materials were purchased and brought to the client's residence. They began preparing the roof for the day's work when the weather conditions rolled in that would've made the work perilous. The crew left the site for the day. NOTE: The in-progress field reports will be inserted here as content is moved over from the old system. This will cover the EPDM installation, re-sloping, and other site details. - Please accept our apologies for the temporary omission! Field Report, September 11 2012: Today, the crew installed two scupper drains on the south-facing parapet of the roof. This will accommodate for better water drainage and lengthen the life of the newly-installed system. Sherwood Park Residential Flat Roof Replacement, August 2011

This client indicated that he would like to stay in his current home for the rest of his life. As such he required a full roof replacement that would last well into the future. There are some re-occurring water leak issues with his current roof and his insurance company will not fix the interior damage until the roof is replaced. Initial state of the rooftop:

Roof Report, August 3, 2011:
The garage area was prepped along with the eastern side of the house. The vent area was sealed and water proofed. Roof Report, August 8th, 2011: The 4 scuppers on the east roof of the house were installed today and all of the scuppers were recessed. Material was completely laid on the west side of the house.
The east roof of the house  was made ready for installation of product for tomorrow morning. Client returned home today and seemed pleased with work that had already been done. We would like to inquire as to whether or not there are (2) 20 ft. downspouts and 2 elbows on the work order to be installed with the 2 new scuppers that were added to the house. If so I will need to purchase these tomorrow morning.

East roof of main house material was laid down today. Curbing and patchwork on west roof's vents were also completed. EPDM was not completely laid going up the walls on the east roof. As of 2:45pm the temperature of the EPDM on the east roof (taken with heat gun) was between 165F and 173F.
Downspouts will be picked up tomorrow morning, and the remainder of the east roof along with any touch ups or detail work will be completed during the day. Barring any unforeseen circumstances this part of the job will be finished by end of day tomorrow.

Roof Report, September 21, 2011: We began the removal of the scuppers from the house. Once the rest of the crew arrived on site we assisted in the temporary sealing of the scuppers. Counter flashing was installed to help mitigate further leak risk. Caulking was done around the counter flashing and scuppers were temporarily sealed.
