Engineered Liquid Rubber Metal Roof Recovery Ponoka Alberta, May 2014

Below you will find a series of reports from scope of work to completion for a large industrial metal roofing coating project. The Ponoka roofing repair crew provided the following assessment: Scope of Work, May 12 2014: The metal roof will be completed using two-ply engineered liquid rubber recovery. A pressure wash will be used to cleaning, water testing, and for site assessment. Test and replace fasteners as required to complete roof deck, penetrations, and gutters. We will provide sheet metal repair and penetration saddle fabrication as required, as well as remove old caulking. All:
  • Penetrations
  • Roof-to-wall connections
  • Fasteners
  • Ridge, horizontal sheet seams
  • Hidden gutters, and roof edging at external gutters
will be hand-troweled using mesh and high grade rubber as required. Liquid rubber coating will then be applied, allowing a cure time, followed by a repeated hand trowel process as above. This will be followed by a second coat of liquid rubber. The project manager provided a rationale for using engineered coating as well. Although the industrial standard would have been to recommend reflective elastomeric coating or SPF spray foam, they do not have longevity in a Western Canadian climate. Liquid rubber, on the other hand, has been shown to have a 1200% expansion and contraction rate. The idea was to get the "most mileage" out of the metal roofing, which have a high maintenance turnover due to leaks caused by expansion and contraction of the metal. Expenses also increase with wear and tear caused by corrosion. Using high end engineered liquid rubber polymer in this climate and context would skirt many of these ongoing maintenance problems.

We also caulked all of the seams and checked all 90's and t-joints. IMAG0810 IMAG0811 IMAG0812 IMAG0813 Roof Report, August 8, 2013: Today we removed water and put the hatch in. We also spoke with the client and explained what the water was from. One of the tie-ins had a minor leak, but once we finish the system it won't leak again. We measured the gutter along the edge with 3 scuppers and determined that we will need a 62' gutter. We have to add a 6" extension into the gutter and the other two will need 24' down spouts. The client would like us to install the gutter and down spouts.
