Edmonton Industrial Gutter Installation, October 2013

This client requested a quotation for an industrial gutter installation, downspout installation, and snow rakes. Our crew was dispatched to the site to perform the necessary work. Inspection, October 19, 2013: The crew arrived for their initial inspection and measured the gutters, downspouts, and snow guards. Roof Report, December 16, 2013: The crew unloaded their tools and materials at the work site. Two crew members started removing snow and ice so that the old gutters could be removed. The ice rake also needed to be removed. By day's end all of the old gutters had been removed and the new gutters were prepped for install the following day. Roof Report, December 17th, 2013: At 8am the crew filled out safety documents before beginning to work. Then they boxed the ends of the two existing gutters on the side of the building. Following that, they boxed one end of the new gutter and worked on installing gutters on the front east end of the building.

After lunch the crew continued to install more gutters as well as two pieces of flashing that had come off of the building. Holes were then made for the downspouts. Finally snow was removed from the west end of the roof where gutter installation is to continue.

Nisku Industrial Metal Roof Inspection and Repair, July 2012

Our project manager provided this client with a quotation for various options including complete roof replacement, liquid rubber coating, and temporary repairs. This report outlines an inspection as well as a minor repair that followed. Inspection, July 1, 2012:
This client would like a quote to repair the first aid room. The roof is very poorly shingled and the slope may be too low for shingles. Take note of the large loosely applied flashing in the pictures as this is likely part of the problem. There are several avenues to take but a journeyman should have a look first. The breezeway has no problems. Shop #1 is still leaking. We repaired all penetrations very well. We discussed coating the straight line where the metal overlaps and is bolted together. It is 152' long and we likely will need to use scrim as the opening is quite large in some places. He would also like a quote for maintenance on the north side of the roof on shop #1 (which was not in the scope during the last round). It is 152' x 52'. I think we should quote on the seam where the metal is joined with fasteners at the same time, as he wants that quoted for the south side of that same roof, again 152' long. He would like a snow removal maintenance contract for the winter as well.
DSCF0401
The client was the manager of a multi-building industrial site. The first quote he was seeking was for the shingle roof covering the first aid room.
Shop 1 North side
The next quotation entailed maintenance on the north side of the roof for the site's first shop. Our technician quoted for the seams where the metal is joined with the fasteners.
Shop 1 North side (4)
We also provided the details for a snow removal maintenance contract based on the area the roof covered.
Shop 1 North side (3)
The penetrations between the standing seams had been rusting on the metal roof, with some missing or exposed screws running the length of the assembly.
Shop 1 North side (2)
One seam where the metal joined with the fastener was significantly damaged. Rust and calcium chloride had caused cracking and small holes.
DSCF0405
Flashing had been loosely applied to the edge of the shingle roof.
DSCF0404
More loosely applied flashing on top of the roof.
DSCF0402
Although some of the exposed screws on the metal roof were previously coated, there were still many remaining to be addressed. Furthermore, the flashing used on the shingle roof had not been custom-fabricated to fit well with the assembly.
Roof Report, May 21, 2014: I met with the client and he showed me where it was leaking. I noticed that the area where the down pipe meets the roof wasn't sealed, so I took it apart and sealed it using LR and water cut off.
I also spotted a few possible leak spots which I fixed just in case they were causing issues.
Material Used:
  • 0.5 of a pail of trowel grade liquid rubber (LR).
  • 0.5 of a pail of roll on LR.
  • 1 tube of water cut off.
