Edmonton Downspout Installation, July 2014

This report covers the installation of industrial-grade downspouts at our client's commercial location. They had GRS conduct repairs to their roof in years prior, and  requested our help in reinforcing the downspout system. Quotation Delivered: July 16, 2014 After conducting some repairs at the client's location the winter prior, we advised them that there would be difficulties in repairing any downspout while the winter season continued. Now that warmer weather has arrived, it's time to conduct the repairs (or, in this case, a replacement). We delivered our quote for the installation of three new industrial-grade downspouts, and booked them in for early-mid July. Roof Report: July 7, 2014 The servicing technician arrived on site for 8:00am and did a site walk-through to investigate any further causes to leaks experienced over the weekend before. The problem was quickly identified as loose meshing where the metal meets the gutter, so it was fixed with a new piece of mesh and brush-grade liquid rubber solution. There was also a problem with the eavestroughs leaking when they were filled over a certain capacity. The problem can't be fixed while they are full, so the technician promised to return at a later date. This report will continue to be updated with more reports and in-progress photos as they're brought over from the old content system. Edmonton Industrial Downspout Installation, August 2012

This client required downspout installation, liquid rubber application, and cap flashing maintenance. These repairs were necessary to ensure a water tight rooftop. This project will form a two part article as an additional liquid rubber roof recovery was done for this client. Project Coordinator's Notes, August 16, 2012:
The scope of work is: Supply and install 2 downspouts outside of building. Replace all residential downspouts to industrial (all powder blue). Remove EPDM liner at gutter, vertical up wall 12", and vertical to roof connection on top of roof 12". Build up liquid rubber to slope to each drain. Cap flashing maintenance. Liquid rubber application to seam in the middle of roof (2' x 186'). Liquid rubber application to seam by and up vertical wall (4' x 186'). Liquid rubber to be applied on all penetration. Anything outside of the scope listed above will be considered a change order and additional charges will apply over and above the dollar amount stated in this contract. For this job you will require 4 drums of metalsafe. We may need to bring additional drums of metalsafe from Calgary if there are not enough for use on this job in Edmonton.
Additional Notes, August 23, 2012:
This client wants all of the residential downspout replaced with industrial downspout. A total of three downspouts from the upper roof to the lower, and a total of five from the lower roof eavestrough connected to the existing drains and extending through the industrial soffit to the ground. The upper downspouts are fairly straight forward. The lower ones are a little more complex and will require removal of the soffit/siding in the locations of the downspouts/drains (extending the industrial size downspouts through the soffit, then replacing the soffit). The bottom section of downpipes will have to be fastened into stone so a hammer drill will be required to fasten pipe straps. Colour of all the downspouts is to be Slate Blue. You will need a 32' ladder for access. I have compiled a material list needed below, as well I have attached pictures of the project. As before please keep me informed of the estimated start date, and the date you complete the project.
Material Estimation:
  • 13 elbows.
  • 154' industrial size downpipe.
  • 16 pipe straps.
  • 8 outlets.

Roof Report, November 6, 2012:
  • Put high build around air conditioning unit.
  • Swapped water from the gutter.
  • Inspected leak areas.
There was a lot of water in the gutter so we did not roll any high build on it. It has to be completely dry for us to put the high build on. photo (6)photo (7)photo (8)photo (9)photo (10)photo (11)photo (12)photo (13)work 129 The second part of this project is continued on another article.
