Shake to Shingle Re-Roofing Fort Saskatchewan. Below you will find a quotation, field report, and photos for a residential re-roofing. The client needed a sloped roof replacement with respect to their shingles. Quotation, May 6 2014:

- Inspection of attic space - check intake air at soffits to ensure insulation is not covering intake air that cools the attic.
- Check exhaust venting at ridge to check if it is clear and calculate proper exhaust required for attic size - approximately 1 sq foot of exhaust venting is required for every 100 - 300 sq ft of roof attic space to properly ventilate the attic.
- Check insulation for moisture damage. Damaged insulation will not work anymore (it will have no R Value) and must be removed.
- Inspect sheathing for water damage.
- Flashing all along the eaves-trough.
- Rake-flashing along all rakes/gables.
- Ice & Water along all eaves, valleys, flashing edges after sheet metal installation, back pans, and penetrations. Ice and water membrane is used to keep freeze thaw ice in the gutters from wicking back up and under shingles and warming at the sheathing and creating a roof leak in to the home.
- Replace all vents and bathroom exhausts, with optional ridge venting included.
- Supply and install metal back-pan for chimney.
- Replace all goose-neck vents.
- Replace all vents and exhausts with rubber-sealed screws instead of shingle nails at exposed areas (regular shingle nails can work back out of sheathing over time and can leak because the nails are exposed and caulking them will over time fade).
- Storm-nail all shingles. Storm nailing shingles requires six nails vs. four nails in to each shingle.
- Re-caulk storm collars and rain-caps with polybitumen or high grade polymer caulking (tar caulking will crack). Using a high quality UV resistant caulking in roofing is important.
- Clean all gutters and downspouts.
- Dispose of all materials, and full cleanup with magnetic roller so that no roofing nails are left in grass to hurt household pets or children playing.
GRS was contracted by this client to replaced their aging roof. Unfortunately, inclement weather dogged them at every turn, but the team persevered to get the roof installed as quickly as possible.

Field Report, September 25 2012:
Old shingle system was ripped off and we cleaned the roof. New drip edges and shingles were then installed, as well as waterproofing them. 80% of the job has been completed.
We are currently waiting for blend shingles, roof jacks, drip edges, and coil roof nails. This site should be done tomorrow.

Just for clarity, I will need a quote for my half, including the additional cost to do the entire front if the neighbour does not cover half at the same time. Since there is also ice damming around the duplex as well, I would like you to specify how this will be dealt with. I will provide you with two separate quotes: one for your half of the duplex and garage, as well as one for the total of the duplex and garage. As for your concerns with ice damming; Ice dams are created when water runs down a sloped roof and runs into a blockage of ice. As it begins to freeze, the ice block then grows up-slope or up your roof. This is commonly found at the gutter area, hence the reason local building codes are starting to call for Ice & Water Shield Underlayment at the eaves (at minimum). Roof underlayment needs to be installed as "monolithic" as possible, have as much elasticity as possible, and be installed so there are no negative laps (due to incorrect installation of membrane connections). If your roofing installer used Ice & Water and used it properly, your roof can then leak at shingle-level and that moisture will never enter your roofing system, or to the sheathing itself. Sadly, many roofing companies or installers do not understand what a negative lap is, or know about monolithic installations of an underlayment/membrane, so this is not always a solution. Local building codes are now typically asking for, at the very least, Ice & Water to the eave up the slope of the roof to a minimum of 36 in. and in the roof valleys. Some roofers do not know or simply ignore the code. We use peel and stick underlay extensively at all openings and at every eave edge and valley. The client reached out to us to have a sloped roof (cedar shake) replaced. The shakes were in poor condition, with many cracking or missing. In the process of the re-roofing, it was deemed that ridge vents should also be installed. The client requested an estimate for regular laminated shingles, and was provided estimates for them alongside many of the similar types of roofing systems (shingles) offered after our crew performed some assessments and minor repairs to the existing structure. Their decision for roofing material was made simpler when our crew arrived with samples of various sorts (metal clad, UDL, ice & water barrier, and the requested laminated shingles). The current plan is to have the re-roofing completed before winter, so that it might protect the home from the weather. Field Report, August 11 2012: We did an estimate for the client and completed light repairs as a temporary fix. Tar was applied around the chimney. Field Report, August 12 2012: Today a skylight repair was performed, which eliminated condensation buildup. A hole in the corner of the skylight was also patched. Below you will find the report for an EPDM re-roofing effort GRS undertook for one of our Edmonton clients. Their existing tar and gravel roof is in need of some work, so we quoted cost for repair, replacement, and recovering services before the client elected to recover the existing roof with EPDM. Our office thought it would be best to establish the scope of the work and inform the customer of what we intended to do at their location. Below is a summary of the correspondence from our team that outlines the project details. Project Scope, July 3, 2012: We will first order the engineered insulation package for the project, and the arrival of this will (in large) determine the effective start date. The best estimate for now is that we can begin late next week (July 11-13), but we promised to keep the client in-the-know if any updates were to come about. The client's on-site contact will be instructed to put a "walk in" bin on street (to allow for us to wheel in wheelbarrows of gravel from the street level); if there are any issues with that he'll let you or I know. We promised to put down sheathing that would safely allow wheelbarrows to be repeatedly rolled across the grass without damaging the property. Another member of the project team will contact the client with respect to colour swatch and choice for metal. They will be advised to keeping the face as low profile as possible, considering the raised elevation view due to sloped insulation raising the parapet. The roofers will be advised that we will be doing an EPDM recovery (removal of gravel first leaving the existing assembly), taking core samples to ensure insulation is dry, and that we are building up parapets to allow for sloped insulation. Finally, the job will require the removal of the flashing around the chimney and possibly require a re-flash (to be evaluated at the appropriate time). Materials:
